Good Company's Music Director, Michael Carney, has been a passionate and dedicated vocal and choral musician and educator for more than 25 years. Mike has served as Good Company’s Music Director since 2016, and founded that group’s Contemporary Composers Series, bringing prominent choral composers to Cleveland for mini-residencies with Good Company and providing meaningful outreach for local music students. He holds degrees in vocal music education from Baldwin Wallace University, where he studied with Stuart Raleigh, Charlie Smith, Mel Hakola and others, and in choral conducting from Kent State University, where he studied with C.M. Shearer.

Mike spent the first part of his career developing award-winning high school choral programs, and now directs the student choral ensembles of Lorain County Community College. He also serves as Director of Music at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland, directing four groups and performing regularly as a vocalist and pianist/organist for services and other special events. Mike also serves as the Choral Director for the Cinematic Symphony Orchestra. As a director and performer, Mike has performed nationally and internationally and has shared the stage with thousands of musicians, working collaboratively with Sarah Quartel, Joel Thompson, Ola Gjeilo, David Conte, Joan Szymko, Moises Borges, and many others. Mike lives in Lakewood with his wife Lucy, and they enjoy traveling, making music together, and spending time with their two adult children.
